Walk on the side of Champagne
Champagne is a French region that is magnificent in its history, its landscapes, its heritage and also its delicious beverage. There are plenty of tourist activities in the region. First of all in the city, in Reims you have of course the famous Cathedral Notre Dame de Reims (place of the crownings of the French royalty and the baptism of Clovis) unavoidable place, rich of history, like the Palais du Tau. In Reims you can also visit the magnificent “crayère” of the great wine houses (Pommery, Taittinger, Lanson, Veuve Clicquot …) which, besides their brief explanations, have beautiful cellars carved out of chalk. While in Epernay, the merchants (Moet and Chandon, Mercier, De Castellane …) have cellars mainly vaulted in stone. The styles are really different but really not to be missed, notably the Avenue de Champagne, which includes large houses.
Near Reims, you can find the traces left by the great war of 14 – 18 at the “Chemin des Dames”. You will experience intense moments filled with emotion.
Then, when you walk in the vineyard, 2 km from our estate, you must make a stop at the “Cave aux Coquillages” which will explain to you, through its galleries dug by hand, the various geological eras through the shells of different species since the sea was present, 45 million years ago.
4,800 hectares of water: this is the area of Lake “Der”, making it one of the largest artificial lake in Europe. But this record would only be a figure if a population of several tens of thousands of Birds cranes made it a haven of peace for migratory birds. This is the must-see for ornithologists and friends of nature, who come to observe them every autumn.
The Marne is also the first step of the podium of the floral departments of France. To showcase this heritage that owes much to its inhabitants, “flower walks” are organized in the most remarkable cities and villages, as so many mini-tours as instructive as colorful. Enjoy it especially at the beginning of summer!
You need to know that you are eating like a king in Champagne and gastronomy is always sacred, also you should know that seven restaurants are “Michelin Guide”-starred in this little paradise of terroir and traditions. Enjoy the end of the day at the “Assiette Champenoise”, where the cuisine of Arnaud Lallement will never cease to amaze you … And for good reason, it displays no less than three stars to the famous “Michelin Guide”! Or taste the local traditions: “lentillons”, the “pig’s foot at the Sainte-Menou” … and to finish in beauty, the no less famous pink cookies (named “Biscuits Rose”) lightly flavored with vanilla and sprinkled with icing sugar, an amazing delight!
For lodging, we are opening a lodging of 4 people this year in our village of “Cormoyeux”, do not hesitate to book your stay to visit the wonders of Champagne. You will not regret it.
